![]() ![]() With each new release of VirtualBox I rebuild my Vagrant boxes (Oracle Linux 7, 8 and 9) so they have the latest guest additions. I’ll go through and add the latest round of Oracle database patches where necessary over the next few days. I’ve already updated the relevant builds to include the latest versions of OpenJDK, Tomcat, ORDS and SQLcl. Once you understand that, I found the best way of learning more was to look at builds done by other people. If you are new to Vagrant and want to learn, you might find this useful. All my test systems are built with Vagrant, so I grabbed it before testing my builds with the new version of VirtualBox. Vagrant 2.3.7Īt the same time I noticed Vagrant 2.3.7 had been released. For this release a straight upgrade was fine on both Windows versions. I had to uninstall then reinstall it to get it to work. ![]() For the previous release I had some issues with Windows 10. ![]() I’ve installed it on my Windows 10 and 11 machines with no drama. The downloads and changelog are in the usual places. ![]() The Extension Pack enhances VirtualBox with some useful capabilities.VirtualBox 7.0.10 was released a few days ago and I finally got round to trying it. So close down VirtualBox, download and double-click on the extension pack, and VirtualBox will launch and install it for you, upgrading any earlier version you might have. None of this requires separate installation, as the extension pack has a "vbox-extpack" file extension that's handled by VirtualBox. Essentially this allows you to run a virtual machine on one PC, while you view and control it from another: again, the manual has the full story.Īnd there's also support for remote booting a computer through emulation of the Intel PXE boot ROM with support for the E1000 network card. You also get VirtualBox Remote Desktop Protocol (VDRP) support. You'll probably need to enable the controller manually, though, as well as add filters for the USB devices you'd like to use (the VirtualBox manual has more details). It includes a USB (EHCI) controller, for instance, which should allow you to get better performance from your USB devices. The VirtualBox Extension Pack adds useful new features to this popular virtualisation package. ![]()
